Communication scheduling in a distributed memory parallel interactive continuous media server system

This paper describes the design of a scaleable interactive continuous media server that is realized using a distributed memory parallel computer architectures. We present a scheme for data layout, admission control and communication scheduling that provides inherent Quality of Service support for the delivery of continuous media streams from the storage devices to the external communication interfaces within the internal communication network of the media server. The methods presented here are used for the development of a parallel continuous media server that is integrated with different applications and supports the RTP/RTCP protocol for data delivery as well as the RTSP protocol to control the delivery of media streams.
